Barangay Disaster Preparedness Training

A 3 day Barangay Disaster Preparedness Training was successfully done last November 22-24, 2012 with the theme “Hiniusang Barangay sa Kalamidad Magtinabangay”.  It was held at the Municipal Multi-Purpose Building.

Gigaquit Municipal Government assisted the Barangay Poniente Tree Planting

For the Gigaquit Civic Club's Tree Planting Project in Bgy, Poniente this November 2012, the municipal government through Mr. William Enario assisted in terms of technical know-how, coordinating with DPWH, DA and DENR and securing the tree planting seedlings.

NATIONAL GREENING PROGRAM implemented in Gigaquit

This National Greening Program is one of the programs of our Pres. Noynoy Aquino especially to those who are in the mining industry. With Executive Order No. 26, there is a need for reforestation, replant trees to those mountains that were already devastated because of mining operations so that it could not cause disaster in times of bad weather.

LGU Thankful to LGW for the Municipal Library Project

Last August 29, 2012 the inauguration of the birthing clinic of the Gigaquit Rural Health Unit, the 2-room building of the Gigaquit Central Elementary School and the Gigaquit Municipal Library were done with Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas in attendance, together with the Provincial Officials of Surigao del Norte.

3rd Las-Ay Festival

The 3^rd Las-ay Festival was celebrated last August 24, 2012 at the Gigaquit Beach. Gigaquit Rhum or Las-ay is an exotic and innovative rum product from the vast nipa palms of Gigaquit. The festival was celebrated to remind us that even before, 100 years ago that this rum already existed and became part of the livelihood of Lumad Gigaquitnons.

162nd Annual Town Fiesta

Gigaquitnons celebrated the 162^nd annual Town Fiesta last August 18-29, 2012 in honor of their Patron Saint Augustine. The celebration was highlighted by various activities in which the people of Gigaquit participated and had much enjoyment.

The Provincial Tourism Staff headed by Mr. Amor Morales, the Culture and Arts Officer of Surigao del Norte, visited the Municipality of Gigaquit last August 13, 2012. The guests were warmly welcomed by the Municipal Tourism Officer, Mr. Alvin A. Egay together with other tourism staff.

UP Davao Profs. and Teachers Visits GIGAQUIT

Several teachers and professors from University of the Philippines-Davao visited and conducted a research last May 17, 2012 regarding our locally-made wine product "Las-Ay" or what is betterly known as GIGAQUIT RHUM.  The research is about how it is being processed , bottled and then sold in the market.

111th Foundation Anniversary of Old Surigao

The Municipality of Gigaquit participated in the 111th Foundation Anniversary of the former Surigao Province (before it was divided into del Norte and del Sur)  held at Surigao City Provincial Complex last May 13-15, 2012.

BUNTIS QUEEN 2012

Because of the eagerness of the Provincial Government to reduce the mother-child death during giving birth, the Province of Surigao del Norte initiated the SEARCH FOR BUNTIS QUEEN 2012, held at Surigao City. Gigaquit municipality’s representative was MRS. MARILOU STA.MARIA  DEGRAN, who fortunately got the title of BUNTIS QUEEN 2012 of Surigao del Norte!

LGU Get Together Party

The LGU get together party last March 2012 held at Gigaquit Beach, gave joy and happiness to each employee of the Local Government Unit of Gigaquit. This affair fostered unity & friendship in every individual.

Iskolar nan Lungsod Catindoy and Pecatoste passed the Second Semester SY2011 Challenge

David Catindoy and Merejoy Pecatoste whose schooling at the Mindano State University are sponsored by the Gigaquit Municipal Government, were able to hurdle again the challenge of the 2nd semester (first year college).

They are now enrolled for the 1st semester (second year college) of school year 2012.

Mrs. Alma Berrowa, a Gigaquitnon who is now a Vice-President of the Mindanao State University is their guardian.

This project is monitored by Mr. David Neuda of the Gigaquit Municipal Government, assisted by Mr. Roy Pepino of the Gigaquit Civic Club.

The First Gigaquit Beach Volleyball Friendship Game was held at Gigaquit Beach last March 31 upto April 1, 2012. Players were from the different government agencies in Gigaquit.
