Much through the efforts of Mr. Roy Pepino, the Gigaquit Municipal Government has started sponsoring scholars.

113th Independence Day

The Local Government Unit of Gigaquit together with the 13 Brgy. Officials and DepEd teachers from elementary to high school, joined the celebration of our Nation's 113th Independence Day, last June 12, 2011 at the Freedom Park of Gigaquit.

2nd Gakit Festival

According to its history, the municipality of Gigaquit got its name from two native words “gigad” which means shore, and “gakit” (paypag) meaning bamboo raft. The words combined and later became Gigaquit.  To give significance to gakit (raft) which is one of the root words of the town's name, the 2nd Gakit Festival was conducted with the theme: "Kulturang Gigaquitnon, atong Palamboon" last April 24, 2011 at Doot Beach.  This was implemented and supported by the Local Government Unit through the Local Tourism Office, in coordination with the 13 barangays who contributed much for the realization of the activity.  The essence of the affair was underscored by different activities such as: gakit making, gakit racing, and beautification contest.

STATE OF THE MUNICIPALITY ADDRESS

In the spirit of transparency and accountability as mandated by the Local Government Code, I come to you again to render my report of accomplishments for part of the year 2009 and the whole year of 2010. This period had been exciting days for us mainly because the foreign funded projects, together with nationally funded projects that we proposed, were finally given the light of day and we were implementing them as a result, as well as our own projects, programs and activities funded from our municipal treasury. But before I start, please bear in mind that we are basically an agricultural community without big business establishments,  and that we have established a policy of no mining activities in the mountains of the Lasicam area with respect to the mineral deposits in this area because mining would damage our Daywan river that supplies water to our irrigation system.
