The Municipality of Gigaquit participated in the 111th Foundation Anniversary of the former Surigao Province (before it was divided into del Norte and del Sur) held at Surigao City Provincial Complex last May 13-15, 2012.
In the said event, the first ever Sajaw Surigao Festival was launched wherein it was participated by 10 different competing municipalities, one of which is our own municipality.
The main aim of the contest is to promote the varied festivals celebrated in each municipality of the province. The municipality of Gigaquit depicted 3 festivals originally celebrated in the municipality namely, JINAWA, GAKIT & LAS-AY FESTIVALS. Moreover, apart from the 3 festivals portrayed, there was an agricultural booth placed that promoted & showcased the products identifying our municipality. These are watermelons, Gigaquit Rhum, crabs, bananas & etc.
The event culminated with the Search for BINIBINING SURIGAO 2012 which had Ms. MARY RUTCHANE A. CAYRON as our contestant. She almost bested the competition as she was the 3rd runner up and got the Special Award Ms. BEAUCHE INTERNATIONAL.
