This National Greening Program is one of the programs of our Pres. Noynoy Aquino especially to those who are in the mining industry. With Executive Order No. 26, there is a need for reforestation, replant trees to those mountains that were already devastated because of mining operations so that it could not cause disaster in times of bad weather.
The municipality of Gigaquit was able to avail of the National Greening Program of the Platinum Group Mining Corporation or PGMC. The Launching and MOA signing was done in Brgy. Mahanub, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte last September 2012. The said barangay was also their choice for planting site.

and Mayor Carlos M. Egay Sr. of LGU-Gigaquit signed the Memorandum of Agreement.
Likewise, the municipality received Php
150,000.00 from the said mining company which they used as payment to the
owner of the land where planting of the trees are being done. They were also given the chance to choose
the kind of trees they wanted to plant. With this program, it
gives people benefit in planting trees. The event was successfully done through
the efforts of our Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Mr.
William R. Enario.
