Community Fund for Agricultural Development (CFAD)

The Department of Agriculture region-13 (RFU-13) through the Local Government Unit of Gigaquit in realization of different CFAD (Community Fund for Agricultural Development) subprojects has conducted a turn-over ceremony last March 9, 2010 at the Municipal Multi-purpose Building. The theme was “Improving peoples’ lives, reaching further and wider” and was hosted by the Local Agriculture Office headed by the newly appointed Officer-in–charge Mrs. Gilda Bersabal and staff. The Mindanao Rural Development Program 2 ensures livelihood projects to qualified organizations in accordance with the main source of living in a certain community. This program temporarily sustains living conditions of individuals specially the IP beneficiaries.

DA Regional Executive Director Mr. Constancio Maghanoy, Program Support Office Mrs. Lorna Elisaca and CFAD Coordinator Mr. John Gamboa represented the ceremony for wide variety of projects. Fortunately, the town was among the selected beneficiaries through the efforts of Mayor Carlos M. Egay Sr..

The activity was participated by different Barangay Officials, Chairmen of different subprojects and their members, SB Members, and Vice Mayor Felixberto Jala. The turn-over include subprojects such as; flat bed mechanical dryer, mud crab and bangus poly-culture, pre and post harvest facilities, solar dryer with many warehouses and footbridges given to its recognized barangay. With this, the beneficiaries could conveniently exercise farming procedures.

Description

This major component aims to give disadvantaged and vulnerable sectors in Mindanao opportunities for increased income from agriculture and fishery production, including allied value-adding activities, that make use of appropriate and sustainable technologies preferred and selected by the target groups. It will ensure their meaningful participation in decision-making over the entire sub-project cycle. Ultimately, it aims to make them capable of handling projects basic to their development.

Objectives

• To address diverse investment priorities of rural communities, through the financing of subprojects which meet community preferences and local priorities
• To increase participating household incomes for vulnerable groups

Subcomponents

These component have the following four(4) subcomponents:

1. Food security interventions
2. Community-Managed Livelihood and Agribusiness Activities
3. Alternative Income-Generating Enterprises
4. Small Support Infrastructure
